TAPS VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

This position is located at the TAPS Headquarters in Arlington, VA

Volunteer Coordination

 

  • Manages recruitment, volunteer opportunity postings and application process for non-Mentor volunteers.
  • Facilitates recruiting, screening, interviewing and placement within specific departments.
  • Ensures that all volunteers receive the online volunteer training (basic training) and are delivered any additional on-the-job or advanced training specific to their placement in TAPS programs.
  • Supports TAPS Program and departmental staff by providing guidance and direction to volunteers during events and service projects.
  • Works with Volunteer Manager and other TAPS staff to foster an organizational culture where volunteers are valued, supported and recognized for their contributions.
  • Facilitates communication with volunteers on a regular basis through phone calls, emails and personal interaction.
  • Ensures that each volunteer receives a formal thank you for each volunteer event.
  • Manages communication to volunteers, e.g. quarterly e-newsletter.
  • Supports social media campaigns to recruit volunteers.
  • Manages Volgistics volunteer database records for all volunteers.
  • Maintains reports, service statistics, volunteer records and contributes to special reporting.
  • Follow up with volunteers who are interested in ongoing volunteer opportunities.
  • Serves as liaison to internal TAPS committees and cross-functional teams.

 

Community Liaising

 

  • Assists with external relationship building by participating in community events.
  • Utilizes Volgistics, and/or Excel to document relationships with community organizations, affinity groups, military units and/or education institutes.
  • Assists in the training of employees.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in business, nonprofit management or related field.
  • 1-2 years volunteer coordination experience and basic understanding of adult and youth volunteer engagement.
  • Demonstrated history of community program development.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel and Outlook; Google applications, such as Sheets, Slides, Docs and Forms.
  •  Internet proficient; ability to learn volunteer specific software (Volgistics).
  • Works effectively with a diverse population of volunteers, staff, and external contacts to build and maintain successful teams.
  • Understands basics of risk management.
  • Effective written and verbal communicator
  • Prioritizes and manages multiple projects with ability to adapt to changes in the work environment and manage competing demands.
  • Possesses ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Gathers and analyzes information skillfully, and develops alternative solutions.
  • Displays motivational skills and initiative.
  • Proactive
  • Maintains high level of integrity, diplomacy and initiative.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Able to carry up to 25 pounds
