Course Availabe | CE Credits Available until June 28, 2022

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is the most widely disseminated and thoroughly researched method of psychotherapy to appear in recent times. It is recognized as an evidence-based method of treatment for PTSD by evaluating authorities including the American Psychiatric Association, the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies and the Veterans Administration/Department of Defense. Nonetheless, there are many misconceptions about what EMDR is, its theoretical base, and the nature of the supporting and critical research.

This presentation will describe and demonstrate aspects of EMDR, place it in a general theoretical context, and briefly summarize the current research. Participants will be presented with information to make informed choices about pursuing training, and which clients may be appropriate for EMDR treatment. Though this workshop will not prepare participants to use EMDR, clinical features of EMDR will be taught which may become immediately helpful in clinical practice for a wide variety of client concerns.

This webinar is presented by the TAPS Institute for Hope and Healing®.

Howard Lipke, PhD

In 1990, while Dr. Howard Lipke was the director of an inpatient PTSD program at a VA medical center, he learned of EMDR, quickly received training from its originator, Francine Shapiro, and then began working with her to teach others. He has published and presented extensively on EMDR in scientific journals and at scientific/professional conferences. His work has included two books, EMDR and Psychotherapy Integration and Don’t I have the Right to Be Angry: The HEArt Program for Veterans and Others Who Want to Prevent Destructive Anger. Much of his other work on EMDR and other areas of psychology can be found at his website HowardLipke.com and in the column Trauma and World Literature, which he co-edits for the ISTSS newsletter StressPoints. Since retiring from the VA, Dr. Lipke has maintained a part time clinical and consulting practice.
