New PSA Raises Awareness of Bereaved Military Families Around Memorial Day
Public Service Announcement From TAPS Urges Support for the Surviving Families of Our Nation’s Fallen
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - May 15, 2019
ARLINGTON, Va. – The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) has released a new public service announcement to air across the country through Memorial Day to increase awareness of the needs of bereaved military families and the services available to them through TAPS.
Since 1994, TAPS has provided critical services and 24/7 emotional support to more than 85,000 surviving family members, casualty officers and caregivers grieving the loss of a military loved one. TAPS supports all those who have been affected by a death in the Armed Forces through peer-based emotional support and grief and trauma services provided free of charge.
The newly-released TAPS PSA, entitled “Visiting Mom,” conveys the hardships bereaved military families face as they are forced to navigate life without their fallen hero. The PSA highlights the various ways TAPS cares for these families and helps them to find hope and healing in the days and years following their loss.
By airing the PSA this Memorial Day, television stations nationwide can help make bereaved military families in their local communities aware of the resources and care available to them 24/7 as they cope with their grief. Although Memorial Day is commonly associated with picnics and barbeques, for surviving military families, it is the national occasion to recognize the service and sacrifice of the heroes they have loved and lost.
“TAPS is grateful for this opportunity to share our mission with audiences across the country and raise awareness for our thousands of families who have lost loved ones during military service,” said Bonnie Carroll, TAPS President and Founder and 2015 Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient. “The vital services TAPS offers to the families of America's fallen heroes are truly life-changing, and would be impossible to provide without the generous support of the American people."
