TAPS Brings Together Families of America's Fallen Heroes at Chicago Regional Seminar & Good Grief Camp

Event to Connect Survivors, Honor their Loved Ones, Provide Hope and Healing

ARLINGTON, Va. - Surviving family members of America's fallen heroes will gather at the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) Regional Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp, March 17- 19 at the Eaglewood Resort in Itasca, Ill. At this event, the first of five regional seminars to be hosted by TAPS this year, several hundred family members will come together to share their stories of love and loss, learn ways to cope with grief and find healing in sharing similar experiences as they honor their heroes.

For adults, support and comfort will come from speakers and sessions teaching coping skills, encouraging reflection and providing opportunities for peer connection. For children, the TAPS Good Grief Camp allows an understanding environment with safe opportunities to express complex emotions and the normalizing experience of being around others who have experienced similar losses.

Volunteers and representatives from Grunt Style will attend the seminar, welcoming families of the fallen during check-in and participating in the Good Grief Camp Zone on Friday night, during the Saturday workshops and the activities on Sunday afternoon. All participants will enjoy a TAPS Family Dinner on Sunday evening.

"Survivor seminars are where the TAPS family provides our core support services to help survivors remember their loved ones, cope with their grief and hope for the future," said Bonnie Carroll, TAPS' president and founder and a 2015 Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient. "The seminars are a safe zone without judgement, where all types of survivors are able to share, connect and care for each other, no matter the circumstances surrounding their loved ones' death."

In addition to this regional seminar, similar events are planned for March 31-April 2 in Colorado Springs, Colo.; July 14-17 in Austin, Texas; Sept. 8-11 in Tampa, Fla.; and Nov. 30-Dec. 4 in San Diego, Calif. TAPS will also host its National Military Survivor Seminar in Arlington, Va., on May 25-29, and a National Military Suicide Survivor Seminar Oct. 6-9 in Phoenix.
