FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - July 17, 2018
ARLINGTON, Va. – The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) Institute for Hope and Healing, which was launched in March of this year, has begun delivering high-quality programming related to grief and loss, and is announcing its programming schedule for the remainder of the summer. Upcoming events include:
Why Aren’t You Crying? Understanding Grieving Styles (free webinar)
Tuesday, July 17 at 12 p.m.
Many people believe that if an individual does not show or share sadness or express other emotions, that the person is not in touch with or is suppressing grief. In fact, grief reactions are highly individual and varied. Many men and women may express their grief in more instrumental ways, showing grief in more cognitive or active manifestations. This webinar explores the different patterns or styles of grief, emphasizing that each of these patterns will have their own distinct advantages and disadvantages.
Understanding Children’s Grief (free webinar)
Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 12 p.m.
Children and adolescents face losses every day, and they do grieve those losses. This webinar will look at developmental differences in understanding how children respond to grief; look at helping kids through specific types of losses, such as sudden loss; and offer tangible suggestions about rituals and other activities for professionals who work with grieving children.
Coping With Grief, Reaching Out For Support (free webinar)
Thursday, Aug. 23 at 12 p.m.
Whenever we experience loss, we experience grief. Grief can feel very lonely and isolating many people ask, “Is this feeling normal? When should I reach out for support?” This program will offer some practical means of coping with grief and techniques that can help foster healing and growth. The discussion will also explore when grief counseling may be helpful and what qualities to look for when pursuing professional support.
TAPS Institute events are appropriate for health care clinicians, clergy, social service clinicians, counselors and others working in or providing counseling in the hospice, palliative care, grief counseling, hospital or nursing home environments.
