Thornberry to Accept 2018 TAPS Honor Guard Gala Congressional Award

Rep. Mac Thornberry, 2018 TAPS Honor Guard Gala Congressional Award Recipient
ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Honorable William “Mac” Thornberry, Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee (HASC), will accept the 2018 Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) Honor Guard Gala Congressional Award on Tuesday, March 6, at 6 p.m. at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.
"TAPS is proud to recognize the steadfast support of Congressman Thornberry with our 2018 Congressional Award," said Bonnie Carroll, TAPS President and Founder and 2015 Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient. "We are fortunate to have such a strong advocate in Congress who is committed to ensuring we have not only the best military in the world, but also one who cares for all those whose life has included selfless service to our nation."
Prior to becoming the HASC Chairman, Thornberry, who represents Texas’ 13th Congressional District, served on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, as well as on the Budget Committee, Resources Committee, and the Select Committee on Homeland Security. He was also tapped to chair the Task Force on Cybersecurity in 2011 and 2012. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1994.The TAPS Honor Guard Gala honors the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen and contractors who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to America and recognizes the families they left behind.

"My first priority has always been to support and provide for the men and women who serve our country, including the families who serve with them and have made great sacrifices to guarantee our freedom, a priority which TAPS shares."
Funds raised through the Gala will be used to support families of fallen heroes through programs such as the TAPS National Military Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp; the National Military Suicide Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp, TAPS Regional Survivor Seminars and Good Grief Camps; and TAPS Retreats for surviving spouses, parents, adult children and siblings.
This year's Legacy Sponsors are the Centene Charitable Foundation and Health Net Federal Services, and the Title Sponsor is USAA.
