In times of both peace and conflict, children with parents in the military must cope with unique military related stressors. Military children may experience childhood traumatic grief following the death of caregiver from combat or non-combat situations or injury. Given the operational demands, risks of duty, and other stressors experienced by military families and community, military children may endure a higher level of exposure to loss, transition, grief and trauma.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Provide an overview of issues specific to military culture and family life.
2. Describe two specific models for treating bereaved military children.
3. Offer suggestions for families, educators and medical providers.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This activity is intended for all professional caregivers providing services to military service members, military families, survivors grieving the death of a military service member, as well as those working in the community providing care to the bereaved. This activity includes, but is not limited to chaplains, casualty assistance officers, military personnel and leadership, social workers, nurses, counselors, marriage and family therapists, case managers, employee assistance professionals, school counselors, program directors, and other health and mental health professionals.

Certificates of Attendance can be provided for those who attend the entire webinar. The Association of Professional Chaplains will accept certificates of attendance for use in reporting continuing education hours. This program is approved by the National Association of Social Workers, Provider #886505639, for 1.0 continuing education contact hours. Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #CEP15218 , for 1.0 continuing education contact hours. Provider approved Licensed Practical Counselor (LPC) Credits for 1.0 continuing education contact hours through the Grief, Loss and Life Transitions Graduate Certificate Program, Counseling Department, The George Washington University, Washington, D.C. Please check with your state licensing board for professional requirements for continuing education.

PROGRAM FEE:

There is no program fee for military personnel, Department of Veterans Affairs Employees, Give-An-Hour Volunteers and those who qualify. There is a $25.00 program fee for all others to attend the program (with or without CEUs). Students with a valid school email address will receive a $10.00 discount. The program fee includes attendance and certificate fees. 

CEU ADMINISTRATION FEE:

For anyone receiving a free program attendance, if you are seeking to receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs), due to high CEU administration costs, a $25.00 fee is asked to be provided. Free attendance to the webinar program will continue to be provided to all who qualify.
