Webinar: Traumatic Loss: Complicated Grief

PAUL TSCHUDI is the Program Director and an Assistant Professor at The George Washington University (GWU) School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He is the founding director of The End-of-Life Care Programs, which are multidisciplinary, online programs that emphasize the psychosocial aspects of grief and loss, spirituality, and caring for the caregiver. Mr. Tschudi has worked for many years with people experiencing life-challenging illnesses, grief, and bereavement. He is also a Vietnam Veteran and served as a Medic in the U.S. Army from 1967-1970. Mr. Tschudi currently maintains a private practice and has been a grief, loss and trauma consultant to many organizations including The Central Intelligence Agency, Hospice Foundation of America, The George Washington Institute of Spirituality and Health as well as The Vet Center for Vietnam Veterans. Mr. Tschudi is also a member of the American Death Education and Counseling Association, the Association of Professional Counselors and President of the GWU Counseling Program Curriculum Committee.

GOAL

The goal of this activity is to teach professionals about the process of grief, range of bereavement reactions secondary to a traumatic loss, describe the indications of complicated grief in the bereaved as well as review practitioner treatment strategies that will address the tasks of complicated bereavement.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This activity is intended for all professional caregivers providing services to grieving families and includes, but is not limited to chaplains, casualty assistance officers, social workers, nurses, counselors, marriage and family therapists, case managers, employee assistance professionals, school counselors, program directors, and other health and mental health professionals.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Provide a definition for the process of grief.
2. Review the range of bereavement reactions secondary to traumatic loss.
3. Describe the causes, reations and indicators of complicated grief, post traumatic loss.
4. Review treatment strategies that address the tasks of complicated bereavement.

Certificates of Attendance can be provided for those who attend the entire webinar.  The Association of Professional Chaplains will accept certificates of attendance for use in reporting continuing education hours.
