All surviving widows, significant others, mothers and sisters whose loss occurred more than one year ago are invited to join TAPS for a self-funded trip to London and Normandy.
This autumn, connect with other women who have lost a loved one who served in the military in London, England, and Normandy, France.
In partnership with the War Widows' Association, we will share and connect with British surviving widows as we experience a variety of events during Remembrance Weekend in London. Then, we will travel to Normandy, France, to visit the site of American sacrifice during World War II. This unique trip offers the opportunity to explore the themes of legacy and remembrance as we build connections with one another, with the past and with fellow survivors over the Atlantic.
TRIP FEES
Self-funded travel opportunity costs are not covered by TAPS. The tour fee is $1,200 per person based on double occupancy and $1,300 per person based on single occupancy. This does not include your airfare to London Heathrow International Airport (LHR) or passport fees. The fee does include most meals, all lodging and transportation, and daily activities that will reconnect you with fellow surviving women in London and Normandy.
LODGING AND TRANSPORTATION
Unless you request a single occupancy room, TAPS will match you with another survivor to share a room with during the trip.
London Heathrow (LHR) is the recommended arrival airport. Please DO NOT book your flight until you receive a welcome email after registering. Passports are required for this event.
ADVENTURE LEVEL
This event is rated as a challenging adventure due to the amount of walking involved. While no extreme adventures are planned, activities will involve moderate physical activity and include sightseeing around London. Participants should expect to walk up to several miles per day.
ACTIVITES
Activities include Remembrance Day in London, partnership activities with the War Widows' Association, sightseeing in London and Normandy, and intentional activities to address grief, connection and legacy.
Application Details
Please note that part of the criteria for application consideration is whether applicants have a connection to the United Kingdom and Normandy.
Applicants who are not initially selected will be placed on a waitlist. Flights must be purchased and travel itineraries must be submitted to TAPS by a date to be determined. A valid passport is required for participation.
Due to the unique nature of this event, the TAPS London and Normandy Women's Gathering is intended for those survivors whose loss occurred more than one year ago. If you are within the first year of your loss, we encourage you to attend a traditional TAPS Retreat, TAPS Regional Seminar and/or the National Military Survivor Seminar.
Throughout your journey, your TAPS family is available with additional programs and resources such as care groups, peer mentors, an online community, casework and benefits assistance, special events, local resource referrals and much more. Please call the TAPS Helpline at 1-800-959-TAPS (8277), and we will assist you in finding the resources and programs that are right for you. The TAPS Helpline is available 24/7.
