Join TAPS for our 2nd annual TAPS College Experience!
Surviving children and stepchildren who are rising Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors grieving the loss of a parent who served in the Armed Forces are warmly invited along with their guardians to attend our TAPS College Experience.
The TAPS College Experience is a 4-day college preparatory retreat in Washington D.C. where surviving children who are rising Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors along with their guardians will get the chance to meet with experts in the areas of higher education. They will learn important skills such as resumes, budgeting, dressing for success and networking as well as everything they need to know about the benefits available for college. We will also discuss applying for and selecting a college and all of the things you need to do to get into your dream school. We will be touring some of the prestigious D.C. area schools such as Georgetown University and the United States Naval Academy. On the last day, we will also do a tour of the United States Capitol and the children will have the opportunity to network, using the skills they have learned, at a reception hosted by the United States Congress, experts in a variety of fields and many of our partner organizations.
While guardians and children will both be in attendance, they will have different programming in the morning and then come together for college tours and fun activities in the evenings. The children will do programming on the SAT and admissions essays while guardians will do sessions on family transitions.
