TAPS Talks: The Power of Peer Mentoring
This TAPS Talk is presented by the TAPS Institute for Hope and Healing®.
A mentor is defined as a knowledgeable and experienced guide, a trusted ally and advocate, and a caring role model. An effective mentor is respectful, reliable, patient, trustworthy, and a very good listener and communicator. Peer Mentors are those who understand their interactions with survivors as not simply a volunteer experience but as opportunities to help others discover the potential within themselves to heal. We will have a live discussion surrounding the Peer Mentors' program and the ability for peers to help to nurture this potential in others.
Featuring
Senior Manager, TAPS Peer Mentor and Online Community ProgramsKellie is a grief professional who is managing and expanding the TAPS peer based model of care through the peer mentor & online care community programs, both at the heart of the TAPS mission. Her passion to support military families is a tribute to her first husband, CPT Mark Nickles, USMC, who died in an aviation accident in 1997. Kellie holds a BA in Radio & Television Journalism and MA in Elementary Education along with certification as a Respiratory Therapist with emphasis in critical care medicine. She also has advanced training in death, dying, and bereavement through the Center for Loss & Life transition and Assist training with suicide prevention.
