Webinar: Denied and Delayed: Ritual Interventions in Times of Loss and the Pandemic
The past two years have brought the issues of illness, loss, and grief to the forefront of consciousness and an unprecedented number of clients into the therapeutic process dealing with these issues. This program will explore ritual as a therapeutic intervention as we consider the developmental and episodic nature of grief across the lifespan.
We will evaluate its usefulness in addressing prolonged grief and the moral injury that may arise from one’s own culpability in the loss. We will identify the cultural dynamics impacting ritual activity today and apply Van Gannep’s, Rites of Passage, model when discerning what types of ritual interventions may be helpful in a given situation. Finally, participants will be provided with a template that can be used in therapy to assist clients in creating their own rituals to facilitate integration and change.
