Online Workshop Series: Women’s Empowerment - Drawing Breath
This online workshop series meets the first three Mondays in April at 1 p.m. Eastern.
Our bodies hold on to patterns of movement - it’s how we learn to walk, to write, to talk, to dance. Our movement patterns become part of us even down to how we breathe, just as our thought patterns become part of how we see and relate to the world. And just like anything that’s become too familiar - from decorations you’ve grown tired of, to a story you’ve almost grown bored of telling, to a sweatshirt you once loved but have lost all interest in wearing - sometimes we need to change it up. We need to breathe some life back into wherever we are, engage the body and brain differently, and see what happens.
Join us as we blend breathwork and artwork in Drawing Breath, a 3-week online workshop series for exploring the experiences of breathing, creating, listening, holding, and releasing.
Each week, Emily Munoz and Lisa Welch will lead participants in breathing and simple mindful drawing exercises. Together, they have over eighty years of combined expertise breathing and holding pencils, so you’ll be in good hands. All military survivors are welcome - no art experience is required - as, in some cases, just the act of moving the pencil will be part of the practice. To that end, participants need nothing more than a quiet space, a rich history of breathing (this means you!), and pencil and paper. Each session will be between 45-60 minutes. We’ll spend most of our time together learning, practicing, and creating, so you’ll be able to really tune in to yourself and the process. To deepen our sense of community, we’ll use a private online forum as a safe and optional place for sharing, reflecting, and as a gallery (if desired).

What to Expect
Online groups are peer-led, facilitated sessions where there’s never pressure to share, but always an opportunity. Whether you attend once or regularly, you will always be welcomed. We value the importance of knowing that there are “places” we can show up and feel supported and inspired, and you can decide to connect with us every week or whenever it’s convenient or compelling.
Please remember that, while we anticipate that these groups will become engaging, encouraging community gathering “places,” you never have to wait if you need to talk. We’re always here for you, 24 hours, 7 days a week, year-round, at 800-959-TAPS (8277).

We ask that you log onto Zoom 5 minutes prior to each session as we will start our online group promptly at start time listed above. Please review our Community Guidelines to one another in advance of joining. Admission to each session will close to admission at 10 minutes after the start time.
