Surviving Military Families in the Media
The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) works closely with national and local news media in telling stories about surviving military families. At TAPS, we welcome anyone grieving the death of a military loved one whether that death came by way of combat, suicide, terrorism, homicide, negligence, accident, or illness. TAPS families have experienced loss in a variety of ways and our community includes mothers and fathers, husbands and wives, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, fiancés, battle buddies, and all others who have lost a military loved one.
Media Resources for TAPS Programming
Through a wide variety of programming, TAPS helps survivors create rich lives despite loss, knowing they carry their loved ones with them. Every TAPS program is designed to help survivors feel companioned as they grieve, supported as they rebuild and united with other survivors as they choose to hope.

Resource Kit for Journalists
Nearly all TAPS families are trauma survivors. Consequently, journalists must be aware of techniques and best practices for interviewing trauma survivors, and realize that these stories require sensitivity.
Specifically, we've created a resource kit for journalists that contains tips for reporting on and using safe messaging in stories about or including the topic of suicide.
Journalists can also call 800-959-8277 (TAPS) or email media@taps.org to discuss story ideas or to request interviews with surviving military family members or TAPS representatives.
