Team TAPS Runners Participate in Marine Corps Marathon
Author: TAPS
Over 300 runners trained for months to run the Marine Corps Marathon & 10K for Team TAPS on October 22. The historic D.C. route had them running up the hill at the Iwo Jima Marine Corps Memorial to cross the finish line. The combined team raised over $100,000 by asking their friends and family members to help them honor the fallen.
Some of our race participants lost a battle buddy in Iraq or Afghanistan. Others were TAPS survivors and ran to find emotional and mental healing while building physical wellness into their lives. But all the Marine Corps Marathon & 10K athletes shared one common belief--they believe in the TAPS mission and wanted to establish a meaningful focus for their physical training by honoring fallen heroes.
250 runners donned the Team TAPS singlet to celebrate and remember the lives of our fallen heroes. Through our Fallen Hero Match, these runners were paired with surviving military families to let them know that their loved one’s sacrifice will never be forgotten.
