Video: Heartbreaking Loss & Hopeful Connections - One Military Surviving Mom's Story
Authors: TAPS Media , Alice Daniel
Alice Daniel thought that when her son, Austin, came back from serving in Iraq, they had weathered the storm and made it through okay, until Austin was diagnosed with cancer, which would later be linked to toxic exposure from burn pits in Iraq. Austin died from cancer related complications and Alice was left angry and heartbroken. She found support at the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors. Learn more about the TAPS Mission.
Alice's story is one of many along with countless others who bravely advocated for their heroes, and were powerful forces that led to the August 2, 2022, passage of the Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson Honoring Our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act of 2022, or PACT Act, expanding Department of Veterans Affairs benefits to an estimated 382,000 potential survivors.
