Video: Returning to School after a Death: Best Ways to Support Children and Teens
Presenter: Pamela Gabbay
Returning to school after the death of someone important in their life is often challenging for grieving children and teens. Grief and loss affects children in many ways: physically, emotionally, and cognitively. It is not unusual for bereaved youth to have trouble focusing at school as well as difficulty concentrating on school assignments and tests. Additionally, returning to school is often emotionally challenging. This presentation will provide information about the best ways to support children and teens as they return to the classroom. This includes conversations with children and teens about returning to school, adjusting expectations, and communicating with school personnel. Ample time will be provided for questions and discussion.
