Anne E. Brodsky, PhD

Dr. Brodsky is Professor and Chair of Psychology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). Her teaching, research, administrative work, and practice focus on resilience, psychological sense of community, social justice, and the role of communities in creating and resisting societal risks and oppressions, including violence, poverty, racism, and sexism. She is the author of over 50 articles and chapters on these subjects, as well as one book, With All Our Strength: The Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) (Routledge, 2003). Dr. Brodsky has previously served as Director of the GWST program (2005-2008), Associate Chair of Psychology (2008-2011), College of Arts Humanities and Social Sciences Associate Dean for Research and College Affairs (2012-2016), Interim Director of the Maryland Institute for Policy, Analysis, and Research (2017-2018), and created the UMBC Center for Social Science Scholarship in her capacity as Special Assistant to the Dean for Social Science Planning (2017-2018). Dr. Brodsky earned her A.B. from Vassar College and her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park. She completed her clinical internship at Massachusetts Mental Health Center, Harvard Medical School, and a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the School of Mental Hygiene at Johns Hopkins University. She was a 2016-2017 American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow and a member of the TAPS Advisory Board..
